Collecting JFK Halves

One if the reasons collecting JFK halves has become so popular is that a complete set of high quality coins from 1964 to the curent year can be assembled fairly easily and at resonable prices, especially compared to other coin types. And many agree that the Kennedy half is one of the most attractive designs of the modern coin era. The early issues in 1964 are 90% silver, and the following years are 40% silver up to 1971. The precious metal content value will likely continue increase as the value of silver continues to rise. Another inducement to collect JFK Halfs is the damage they are undergoing due to circulation issues. See JFK Damage reports.

Over the years I have purchased over 20,000 JFK halves from a local bank in original bank wrappers shipped in bank boxes of 1000 coins each. In reviewing these coins, I have hand selected the Kennedy Half dollars I am offering for sale, and fairly graded each coin. I do not use the term "BU"  not only because it is so overused, but nowhere in the A.N.A. coin grading guidelines does the grade "Brilliant Uncirculated" appear. So the next time you want to buy a coin, and a dealer tells you that it is "BU" ask him if that is an A.N.A. grade. Then open the Red Book to page 5, and ask him where the term appears.
